Professional Script & Novel Consultancy
Get your story working before you send it out into the world.
I’m Deborah Marsh, a professional producer, writer and script and story editor with extensive experience in British television and radio.
I’ve worked on EastEnders, Casualty and Family Affairs, produced and directed for BBC Radio 4, and spent much of my career developing scripts, stories and writers.
I now offer one-to-one professional consultancy for writers developing screenplays, television projects and novels.
Whether you have a first draft that isn't quite there yet, a story you're struggling to develop, or a manuscript you're preparing to submit, I can give you an experienced, honest editorial perspective on what is working — and what needs fine tuning.
SCRIPT & STORY CONSULTANCY
For screenwriters and television writers.
NOVEL CONSULTANCY
For novelists and writers preparing for submission.
ONE-TO-ONE DEVELOPMENT
For writers who want ongoing support as they develop their work.
Industry experience.
Honest editorial advice.
Your story at the centre.
Writing can be a solitary business. Sometimes what you need is someone experienced enough to tell you what isn’t working — and why — without losing sight of what makes your story yours.
I've spent many years on the professional side of the process, working with writers, scripts and stories from early development through to production.
My approach is constructive, rigorous and writer-focused. I won't rewrite your story for you or try to turn it into mine. My job is to help you see what you have, identify its strengths and weaknesses, and work out how to make it better.
What I can help with:
Story & Structure
Does the story have momentum?
Are the turning points working?
Does the ending feel earned?
Character
Are your characters compelling, distinctive and driving the story?
Dialogue
Does the dialogue sound natural? Is every scene doing enough?
Pacing & Development
Where does the story slow down? What needs expanding, cutting or developing?
Screenwriting
Script structure, scenes, character arcs, television and film storytelling, and industry perspective.
Novel Writing
Narrative structure, character, voice, opening chapters, pacing and overall manuscript development.
Submission Preparation
An experienced editorial eye before you send your work to agents, producers or publishers. Synopsis and elevator pitch support to make your submission stand out.
