SCRIPT CONSULTANCY
Professional script development for writers who want to make their work stronger.
You may have a script that isn't quite working, a promising idea that you can't yet shape, or a second draft that still isn't where you want it to be.
Script consultancy gives you a fresh, independent perspective on the work — helping you identify the problems, explore the possibilities and decide what to do next.
What can we work on?
Story
Is the central idea strong enough? Is there a clear dramatic journey? Does the story keep developing, or does it begin to lose momentum?
We can look at what the story is really about, where its dramatic potential lies and how to make the most of it.
Structure
Does the script have the right shape? Are the major turning points working? Is information being revealed at the right moment?
I can help you look at the script as a whole and identify structural changes that could give it greater pace, tension and momentum.
Character
Are your characters making active choices? Are their motivations clear? Do their relationships generate enough conflict and emotional interest?
We'll examine what each character wants, what stands in their way and how their individual journeys contribute to the story.
Scenes
Does every scene have a purpose? Are scenes beginning and ending in the right places? Is too much being explained?
Sometimes a script needs a change of structure. Sometimes it needs a scene removed, combined, shortened or developed. We'll identify where those opportunities lie.
Dialogue
Does the dialogue reveal character and create drama, or is it carrying information that could be shown another way?
We can look at whether the voices feel individual, whether conversations have enough tension and whether the dialogue is doing the work the scene requires.
Pacing
Where does the script grip? Where does it slow down?
A detailed look at pacing can reveal sections that need tightening, moments that need more room to breathe and opportunities to keep the reader turning the pages.
Tone
Is the script delivering the experience you intended?
We can consider tone, genre, atmosphere and the relationship between the writing and the story you are trying to tell.
Different stages, different needs: I can work with you at whatever stage your project has reached.
Early Idea
You have a premise, characters or an outline but need to work out what the story could become.
First Draft
You've finished the script and need to understand what is working before embarking on a rewrite.
Second Draft
You've already made changes but something still isn't quite right and you need an objective view of the next stage.
Nearly Finished
The script is close, but you want to identify anything that could be strengthened before you send it out.
Stuck
You know something isn't working but can't see the solution from inside the story.
How we can work together?
Depending on what your project needs, consultancy can include:
Written script notes
Detailed feedback on the script, with clear, practical development points.
One-to-one consultation
A focused discussion about the work, giving you the opportunity to talk through problems and possibilities.
Ongoing development
For writers who want support across several drafts or stages of a project.
The aim is always the same: to help you see your script more clearly and make informed decisions about the next draft.
I won't rewrite your script for you or try to make it sound like mine. The writing remains yours.
